North Storm seeks to provide athletes with a higher, more demanding soccer experience. We aspire for excellence constantly, and we hope that the lessons learned in soccer will be beneficial in all aspects of our players’ lives. The players’ respect and care for family, team, and community is a cornerstone of the North Storm philosophy. We also believe that balance and harmony are essential elements for success.
North Storm also believes that competition is important to achieving excellence. When we are between the white lines everything is competitive: practices, scrimmages, and games. We typically keep score and we care who wins and loses. However, outside of the white lines the soccer competition is over and we function as a community of one – even with our former opponents. Therefore, during practices we believe that it is appropriate to strive hard to defeat our teammates in drills, exercises, and games (e.g., 1 v 1; 2 v 1, 2 v 2, etc.) because we know rigorous competition is going to make all of us improve, and that there is no contradiction in laughing with and giving a “high five” to those same teammates afterwards.
North Storm coaches understand that the “fabric of the team” must be woven; it doesn’t just appear. Therefore, coaches conduct team-building activities, and the positive involvement of parents is critical to team-building.
Because North Storm believes that actual achievement is a key to success, merit is extremely important. Consequently, rewards are generally earned through hard work and going beyond the norm.
Fundamentally, through understanding the extent of commitment and effort necessary to succeed, North Storm seeks to encourage the development of caring, well-adjusted, successful, and exceptional people and athletes.
